. Assistant Researcher @ CEDOC-NMS

An international call for one Assistant Researcher, at CEDOC-NMS, in the scientific area of Biomedicine with special emphasis on the area of cellular and molecular biology is open. The deadline is October 5, 2021 (0h00).

Candidates must:
a) hold a PhD degree in the areas of Life Sciences, Health Sciences, or similar areas.
b) have a relevant curriculum in the areas of Cell Biology, with relevance in the themes that fall within the scientific strategy of the Research Center of NOVA Medical School, CEDOC – Chronic Diseases Research Centre (Centro de Estudos de Doenças Crónicas).

For the assessment of the Curriculum vitae, it will be mandatory considering the number and quality (namely that reflected in citations) of publications as well as the ability to raise funding in national and competitive internationals.

. 2 Research Initiation Grants @ Nuno Neuparth Lab

A call for applications for two research initiation grants (BII), supervised by Nuno Neuparth, head of Integrated Pathophysiological Mechanisms Lab, is open. Deadline is September 10, 2021 (11 pm).

Candidates should be enrolled in a Bachelor (Licenciatura) degree, or equivalent course, on the field of Computer Science and are expected to develop activities regarding computer algorithms for speech processing for the estimation of perturbation characteristics, fundamental frequency, energy and HNR distributions, spectral and LPC spectrograms, cepstral coefficients and peak prominence.

. 1 Post-Doc Fellowhsip @ Cláudia Almeida Lab

An international call for one postdoctoral research fellowship, under the supervision of Cláudia Almeida, leader of the Neuronal Trafficking in Aging Lab, is now open. Deadline is September 5, 2021.

The Postdoctoral Researcher, expected to have a recent PhD in neurosciences, will establish a novel synaptic function for CD2AP and determine the impact of a Alzheimer’s mutation in CD2AP on synapses. The experimental approach includes microscopy-based cell biology and neurosciences assays, electrophysiology recordings using multi-electrode arrays, as well as proteomic analysis. The postdoc is expected to be creative, and to show initiative, and will be mentored to become the project leader, to write manuscripts and to communicate at international meetings.

. 1 Research Fellowship @ Cláudia Almeida Lab

Research fellowship for Bachelor holders, under the supervision of Cláudia Almeida, head of the Neuronal Trafficking in Aging lab. Deadline is August 28, 2021.

6-month fellowship, with renewal possibilities, in the scope of the project "Recapitulating late-onset Alzheimer's disease in a three dimensional human neural cell model". Candidates should have:

- Bachelor Degree or equivalent in the field of Biochemistry or equivalent; final grade above 16 required;
- Enrolment in a master’s degree in the field of Neuroscience or Biomedical Research;
- Research experience in molecular and cellular mechanisms of neuronal trafficking dysfunction relevant for Alzheimer’s disease (demonstrated on CV).

. 1 PhD Position @ João Conde Lab

New PhD Position supervised by João Conde, group leader of the Nanomedicine lab. Deadline is August 23rd.

The candidate will be involved in the synthesis and characterization of hybrid nanoparticles and hydrogels for local therapy using multicolor miRNA circuits for breast cancer in vitro and in vivo. He will also be involved in the evaluation of therapeutic efficacy and tumor heterogeneity profiling in different types of breast cancer in in vitro and in vivo tumor models.

Requirements are the enrolment in a PhD in the field of Biomedicine or intend to enter one; enthusiasm for science, scientific rigor, critical thinking, proactivity and resilience; good teamwork and interpersonal skills; excellent communication and writing skills; excellent command of the English language; previous experience (preferred) in at least one of the following research fields:

1. Nanoparticles and biomaterials (synthesis and functionalization of biomaterials).
2. Gene therapies
3. Cancer therapies
4. Human cell culture and cellular and molecular biology assays.

An international call for one research fellowship in pharmaceutical sciences for MSc holders, under the supervision of João Conde, leader of the Cancer Nanomedicine, is now open. Deadline is August 16, 2021.

Candidates should be holders of an Integrated Master's Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a Master's Degree in Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Biomedicine, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry or related fields. Enrolment or intention to enrol in a PhD in the field of Biomedicine is preferred, as well as previous experience:

1. Nanoparticles and biomaterials (synthesis and functionalization of biomaterials).
2. Gene therapies

. 1 Post-Doc Position @ Cláudia N. Santos Lab

New Post-Doc Position to develop specific research activities under the guidance of the group leader within the scope of the ERC project, in the Molecular Nutrition and Health group.

Candidates should hold a PhD degree in the field of Life Sciences and a scientific and professional curriculum that reveals a profile appropriate to the activity to be developed.

Requirements include knowledge in the areas of molecular mechanisms, preferably in mechanisms associated with neuroinflammation, experience in cell models in co-cultures or organoids (preferred), registration of publications in high impact journals, experience in rodent models and with certification and certification for handling animals (preferred), practical experience with fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry and cell culture and excellent command of the English language.

. 2 MSc Research Projects @ Miguel Seabra's Lab

The Molecular Mechanisms of Disease Lab @ CEDOC - Centro de Estudos de Doenças Crónicas is seeking for highly motivated MSc students work on 2 projects:

Project 1) Evaluating the protective effect of berries-derived polyphenol metabolites in mouse retina degeneration. Under the supervision of Sandra Tenreiro, Luísa Lemos from Molecular Mechanisms of Disease Lab and Cláudia N. Santos from Molecular Nutrition and Health Lab. In this project the following tasks will be performed:
i) Characterization of the retinal degeneration induced by 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)
ii) Evaluation of the protective/ treatment effect of berries-derived polyphenol metabolites on retina degeneration induced by MPTP
iii) Evaluation of the protective/ treatment effect of berries-derived polyphenol metabolites on retina function affected by MPTP by microelectrode array.

Project 2) The Role of Lysosomes in the Pathogenesis of Choroideremia. Under the supervision of Pedro Antas from Molecular Mechanisms of Disease Lab. In this project the following tasks will be performed:
i) Study the contribution of necroptosis to CHM pathology.
ii) Characterize the lysosomal function and its repair mechanisms in the context of REP-1 loss.

. 1 ERC Funded Position for PhD Holders – Cláudia N. Santos’ Lab

1 ERC funded position for a post-doc contract is currently open for a highly motivated candidate to join the Molecular Nutrition and Health Lab.

The Lysosomes in Chronic Human Pathologies and Infection Group is seeking for highly motivated Msc students to work on the following Research Projects: i) Prevention of diet induced inflammation in Zebrafish models; ii) Study the role of lysosome dysfunction in cell senescence in atherosclerosis. . 1 Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship @ Cláudia's Almeida Lab

An international call for one postdoctoral research fellowship under the project entitled “Understanding the Impact of a Late-Onset Alzheimer's Disease Mutation in CD2AP on Synapses", at Neuronal trafficking in aging Lab, under the supervision and mentoring of Cláudia Guimas Almeida, at the Center of Chronic Diseases Research – CEDOC of the NOVA Medical School | Universidade NOVA de Lisboa of Lisbon, is open.

The Postdoctoral Researcher will develop a novel cellular model of late-onset Alzheimeir’s disease using human neurons differentiated from hIPSCs edited with CrisPR-CAS9 with the patient’s mutations, to evaluate how Alzheimer’s late-onset mutations disrupt neuronal function.
Candidates must hold a PhD in Neurosciences or equivalent (PhD defended in the last 3 months or to be defended until the end of April). Failure to meet these requirements is sufficient to exclude candidates.

. 1 Research Fellowship @ Patient Innovation Team

1 position for a Research Fellowship (BI) in the scientific field of Health Economics withinthe project “Revolutionizing Healthcare: Empowering patients by valuing innovation and promoting entrepreneurship” is open.

Candidates must be students in the field of Bioengineering, Health Sciences, Information Technologies or related areas enrolled in a Master’s program or holders of a Bachelor or a Master degree enrolled in non-academic degree courses integrated in the educational project of a higher education instituton.

. FCT PhD Fellowships – Otília Vieira's Lab

Two project proposals suitable for application to FCT PhD fellowships, under the supervision of Otília Vieira and André Marques from the Lysosomes in Chronic Human Pathologies and Infection Group, CEDOC, NMS. One project aims to address the molecular mechanisms underlying lysosome dysfunction in atherosclerosis and the other is focused on the study of the anti-inflammatory potential of various natural compounds using zebrafish models.

. Research Fellowship - CHRC - Comprehensive Health Research Centre

A call is open for one Research Scholarship for MSc. holders enrolled in cycle of studies to work within the Horizon 2020 funded PHIRI project - Population Health Information Research Infrastructure. .R&D Project Manager @ CHRC - Comprehensive Health Research Centre

1 position for a R&D project manager at CHRC (Évora Campus).

1 ERC funded position for a post-doc contract is currently open for a highly motivated candidate to join the Molecular Nutrition and Health Lab.

Candidates should have knowledge in molecular mechanisms, particularly in the mechanisms of neuroinflammation (preferred), and experience in fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry and cell culture tecnhiques. Previous work in rodent models and certification for handling animal is preferred. Registration of publications in high impact magazines is also a plus.

. 2 ERC Funded Positions for PhD Holders – João Conde’s Lab

There are 2 ERC funded positions available for candidates who are enthusiastic about science, scientific rigor, critical thinking, proactivity and resilience.
Candidates should have previous experience in at least, one of the following research fields: nano and biomaterials; gene therapy; tumor targeting; drug delivery; cancer therapy and immunotherapy.
It is also expected applicants to have prior experience with, at least, one of the following techniques: synthesis and functionalization of biomaterials, nanoparticles, hydrogels; in vitro and in vivo applications of nanoparticles and/or hydrogels; human cell culture; cell and molecular biology assays; tumor models (Preferably in breast cancer); work with mouse models (FELASA accreditation).

. 1 ERC Funded Position for a Postdoctoral Fellow - Catarina Homem's Lab

1 ERC funded position for a postdoctoral fellow is currently open for a highly motivated candidate to join the Proliferation and Fate Regulation of Stem Cells Lab.

The research project aims to study how neural and adult stem cell fate is regulated by transcriptional networks and metabolism using the fruit fly as a model. The project includes state of the art methodologies, access to dedicated equipment and an interactive team with international collaborations.

. 2 Postdoctoral Positions - Catarina Homem Lab

2 ERC funded positions for postdoctoral fellows are currently open for a highly motivated candidates to join the Proliferation and Fate Regulation of Stem Cells Lab.
The positions are initially funded for one year, with possibilities of extension until the end of the project. Applications start on September 1st and will continue until the positions are filled.

Position 1 - The research project aims to study how stem cells are regulated by metabolism and nutrition using the fruit fly as a model.
Position 2 – Ideally for researchers with a bioinformatic background. The research project aims to do extensive bioinformatic analysis of large sequencing data sets.

. Post-Doctoral position - Otília Vieira Lab

A Posdoctoral research contract is available in the Lysosomes in Chronic Human Pathologies and Infection Lab at CEDOC. The posdoc will work on the pro-atherogenic potential of a novel family of oxidized lipids, identified by shotgun lipidomics in cardiovascular disease patients, in cells and animal models. The potential on these lipids in prognosis and diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases will also be assessed. This project will be carried together with cardiologists from Hospital Santa Cruz, Carnaxide (Lisbon area) and a German Lipidomics company.
