Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position to study “The metabolic regulation of stem cells during development” in the Proliferation and Fate Regulation of Stem Cells group led by Catarina Homem.

In every animal embryo, stem cells are required for the development, growth and regeneration of tissues and organs. At some point, the stem cells have done their job and must disappear. C. Homem Lab uses the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as a model to study the mechanisms that regulate stem cell proliferation and fate during development. In particular, the Lab is studying how metabolism and nutrition affect stem cells and consequently animal development.

Applicants should hold a PhD degree in a relevant subject area. Experience with cell imaging and Drosophila would be advantageous but not essential. The position is initially funded for one year, with possibilities of extension. Candidates are also expected to apply for competitive national and international funding sources.
